Watchtower Wavers Watching Me

Yesterday while coming home, I was approached by two Jehovah's Witnesses at my bus stop. I was smoking and keeping a distance from others, because that's what you do when you're considerate of people.

They spotted me. I spotted them. Ironically I've been reading Washington Gladden's "Who Wrote The Bible" during my commutes for the last few weeks. Yeah, it's lengthy and sometimes I start yawning off.

Wanting to see where they'd go, I let 'em come. The first thing in dealing with someone trying to tell you you're wrong; me being sound in my faith in Christianity and not about to argue it; I put a stop to things.

When he went to hand me 'The Watchtower', I told him; quite dumbly and without expression; "I'm not able to read".

Noticed a reaction on the facial expression of the 'hammer', the backup gal.

He went into his 'Bible' and 'shared' with me. I listened to him and let my eyes roam over the page without looking at his fingerpointing. It's when it hit me...
he told me souls are not immortal...from only one scripture read from Ezekiel.
I kept up the simpleton act, he said something about the next time another 'Witness' would read to me another day, and off him and his gal went.

The only way he'd have understood his soul being immortal would have been to have ended his life at that moment. Since sending him to Hell wasn't an alternative, I let him live, prayed for him, and hope for the best.

...and I actually believe pigs fly. They do it all the time in Downtown Jacksonville!

Upcoming JCC Fatherhood Initiative/Project MALE Meetings

Parenting doesn't come with an instruction manual, unless you believe the spin at one of those 'Life Coach' sites that end up trying to convince you to buy their book. The fact is there's less resources for dad's to network than there is for mom's, in a setting that's about THEM in this town...or at least not as well known.
Yeah, I covered my butt with that last one
I had the chance of getting in touch with Ronnie at the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, after spotting some info at "The Mayor's" site that wasn't clear about this kind of resource. Ronnie made it crystal clear...

"The next two meetings will be held on 8/9/07 and 9/13/07 here at the Jacksonville Children’s Commission. Our address is 1095 A. Philip Randolph Boulevard. The meetings are from 6-8pm. The topic in August is “The Art of Living” which will deal with “Men’s Health and the topic for September will be “The Power of Choice”. Dropping in is ALL-RIGHT!"

For those of you not having a vehicle, JTA's 'F1 - Florida' Bus line goes right past the place. If I can make it after a gruelin' day in a cross commute through town, then chances are you don't have an excuse to miss out if you're a guy with someone looking up to you.

Oh...and if you're one of 'those' guys who don't need the help, consider the help and mentoring you might be able to offer a young dad who might show up to get some helpful advice. This'll be a good chance for many of the 'Dad' bloggers in Jacksonville to put their 'Blog where their mouth is'.

Deal.

Don't be a 'lozor'! Make mention about this on your site. It's more important than us bloggers meeting up for a brew...isn't it?

Bored? Got SciFi?

Not that crap that's piped in the way marketers want you ta take it! While SciFi.com has given geeks, nerds, dweebs, trekkers/trekkies, and other addicts their fix daily since it came online...it's canned. Granted, there's been a FEW decent things that came out, but for the most part storylines on 'Made for SciFi' shows/movies are rehashed, recanned, and restrung based on the prior works of others.

It's nice, but it's not original. It's on the same line as Asimov monthly magazines, where you'd receive only tastes of a meal. Granted, some of them were excellent, but in the end a person was lost when trying to get that one newly created appetite fulfilled.

Go get some old school, please? The mind you save WILL be your own!
