Ecommerce software can be a great addition on your own hosted site, but it's not an option to add directly to blogs; such as this one; hosted on Blogger. To have your own shopping cart for visitors to run around with, you'll need space. Doing it yourself is honestly a headache. Letting someone do the legwork in the back, while you play host isn't.
I got a request last night to check into Ashop Commerce's site, and found the location shows a Copyright date of 2004 on their footer. I thought that was reasonable, considering most fly by night operations fail within the first two years, in my opinion. The next thing I did was check out their FAQ,and was actually surprised.
- They hit just about all the points I'd personally have asked about, to see if they'd slip up and show me they were just pushing script.
- Traffic stats of store/cart visitors
- SEO optimized background
- Store owner can assign different level access types to employees for security reasons.
- Order status capability for customers.
- Store account plan can be up or down graded, so you don't get stuck with too much power if it's not needed.
- NO FIXED TERM CONTRACT! See above statement. Cool. You pay once a setup fee, and a monthly store fee for your account. No transaction fees, no hidden costs. Cancel anytime providing only 30 days notice.
- Sell tangible items as well as software, ebooks, etc.
Is this for everyone? No. An online shopping cart software store front is for someone actually having something to sell. If you don't, don't go there.
If you do have something to sell, you need to check this site out. The other option is to use preinstalled CGI scripts on a probably overpriced hosted site, that'll cause you problems in just installing and configuring the layout and look.
Good resource, in my opinion.
